We can't do what??

The on-going saga with our sun room continues.

I was notified yesterday that our building permit was ready to be picked up. I'm thinking, "Great! About time for some good news!"

When I get there, I pay the fee, start to walk away when I see some red writing on the permit. It states that if I have an "egress" from the master bedroom to the patio (which I do) then we can't screen in the patio.

Say what?? It says all over the permit that these are the plans for a "Screened Patio". And it has the Approved stamp on it. Yet, they throw in a disclaimer that states, sorry Charlie, but no screened patio for you.

Well, I talked to Giliane about it and we both came to a decision. To HELL with them. We're gonna have it built and then screened. Then, when we go to sell the house eventually, we'll mention that the permit is for a non-screened patio, and if we have to, we'll remove the screens.

So as I write this, our ugly-ass eyesore of a room is getting torn down. Finally!!! They say they'll be done by the weekend. By Saturday at the very least. Then the roofer will be here a week from Thursday to put a new roof on. Pretty damn slick, huh???

UPDATE:

I can't tell you enough how weird it is to see the back of the house with the old AZ room gone.
Here's a pic of what our patio looks like right now. No AZ room. Just an open patio. Looks weird, doesn't it??

Ain't it beautiful?? :) Even in a pile of rubble it looks better than it did!!

All we want is a new sun room!

You'd think that if all you're doing is tearing down the crap that the previous owners had in place and trying to do it right then the city wouldn't require you to jump through all of their hoops.

But NOOOOO!!

"Sorry sir, but if you're tearing down the roof over your patio, and plan on putting a new one in place, then you'll definitely need a building permit."

"Say what? I'm only talking about a section of patio that is maybe 10' by 20' at the most."

"Sorry sir, but Lake Havasu City wants you to bend over and grab your ankles so that we can laugh at you. Not only that, you're gonna pay us to laugh at you. What do you think about that?"

Mumble, grumble, bitch, moan, scowl...

The only plus side to this is that we'll finally get rid of that ugly-ass blue shack-thing that the previous owners built themselves.

It's a pain, but it'll be worth it. I'll post some pics of the destruction/construction process as soon as I'm able. 3-5 business days once the $300 plans are drawn up and approved. Dirty sons of b-----s...

boooohooooo... broker school time..

awwwww bummer, the time has come.. broker school. can you tell that i am just thrilled?? psht! sucks, school and test taking sucks..

C'mon Redskins!

When I started writing this blog, they were only losing by a few points. Now the score is 19 to 3. Come on guys! You can do better than this!!

I can't even begin to remember the last time the Redskins were in the Super Bowl. At least they made it to the playoffs last year. First time in 6 years, I think.

I know Keri likes the Seahawks. What does everyone else like? Who's your favorite team? Friends have always asked why I like the Redskins. Because my grandpa played for them in '52, that's why!! Of course, he also played for the Los Angeles Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles, but he started on the Redskins.

I gotta tell you, nothing beats sitting back on Sunday and watching a football game or two! And best of all? My wife likes watching football, too! Way to go Giliane!!!!!

All this for a new cell phone??

It never fails.

I wanted to upgrade the Sprint cell phones we have been using now for 2 years. Sprint has a program where if you use the same phone for that long, then you get $150 per phone credit towards your next phone.

What a pain in the ass!

I called them last Thursday to see about doing just this. They said that I'd still be saddled with mail-in-rebates, etc, and that I'd still end up paying over $180 per phone (before rebate naturally). I asked them if I was a brand new customer why then I could get the same phone, hassle-free, for $80. "New clients only, sir."

I then told ol' Bryan @ Sprint that if he wanted to keep us as clients then he'd offer us a deal that was equivalent. You'd think I just asked him to turn lead to gold. "I don't have the authority to do that, sir."

Fine. Time for a supervisor. "Joseph" got on the phone. Gave him the same speel. It was time for Sprint to treat their existing clients just as well as they treat new ones. He flat-out didn't want to give me a deal whatsoever. Asked for his employee ID. That shut him up. "Why do you need that?" "Well, when Sprint asks us why we're closing our account, I'm going to tell them that YOU were unwilling to treat us right and not give us any deal." "One moment please, sir."

Back on hold. 10 minutes later I finally was given the deal I wanted. Two new A900s, pictured to the left. Essentially, buy one get one free. Now, if you consider that each of these phones is well over $350, you'll finally see I got my way. :) Just irritates the living crap out of me that these cell phone companies don't treat their existing clients well.

I'm sure I'm at the top of their favorites list now. :)

But, the story goes on. When we got these phones, I activated Giliane's first. Went off without any hitches. But mine? "I'm sorry sir, but the code on that phone is fraudelent." Super long story short, I had to go to Walmart (yeah, I know, but that's where Sprint told me to go) and cool my jets there for over 2 hours while they gave me the run-around. They tried to get me to agree to send the phone back myself. Then they would send me a new one when they got the old one.

LOL That didn't go over too well. Another arguing match. Needless to say, I got my phone! But was it worth it? Hmmmmmmm, yeah, I won two battles with Sprint. Guess I like to argue! No comments from the peanut gallery, Keri!!!!
